Antonny is a nine-year old boy who lives about 70 miles south of Quito (Ecuador's capital) in the canton of Latacunga, in an area called Barrio Pilatan.
The mountainous community of Barrio Pilatan is home to approximately 1,200 residents. Typical houses are constructed of cement floors, brick walls and tin roofs. The primary ethnic group is mestizo and the most commonly spoken language is Castellano.
The regional diet consists of bread, maize, potatoes and rice. Common health problems in this area include diarrhea, respiratory infections, scabies and malnutrition. Most adults in Barrio Pilatan work as animal herders, day laborers, market traders or in domestic services and earn the equivalent of $150 per month. This community needs improved education.
The staff of Jesus El Maestro provide Antonny and many other children with Bible teachings, singing lessons, supplemental food, health screenings, drama classes, retreats, soccer tournaments, remedial classes, mentorship programs and life skills training. The center staff also provide schooling for Antonny's parents.
Antonny's family duties include making beds and running errands. His favortie subject in school is Science, and his hobbies include running, playing soccer, and learning about God.
We are pleased to sponsor Antonny and walk with him as he grows physically, socially, and spiritually.
